There's no official paper stating that the US student visa interview is divided into sections but we know from years of experience that the US student visa interview is divided into at least six major sections.  And that's the information we want to share with you today.

Shown below are the key sections of the US student visa interview and the corresponding questions that the US visa officer may ask on each section. Most of them are psychological questions and they're meant to test your motives.

1). Your plan to study in the USA

In this section, the US visa officer wants to understand why you chose to study in the USA instead of other countries. He/she may also want to know your plan.

The following are some of the questions you may be asked by the US visa officer during a US student visa interview about your study plan.

a). Why do you want to travel to the USA ? (Please take note that this question is asking your purpose for the trip, not why you want to study in the USA).

b). Why do you want to study in the US ?

c). You already have a Master's degree; why are you going for Master's  again in the USA ?

2). Your choice of US University or US college or Program or course

There are many universities and colleges in the USA, so there must be a very good reason or reasons why you prefer to study in one university over another.

So, the US visa officer would like to know why you prefer to study in one school or schools over another. He/she would also want to know why you chose to study one program over another in that school.

The following are some of the questions the US visa officers may ask about your choice of school or program/ course..

f). What is your undergraduate degree ?

3). Your capability to pay for your tuition

Where the student visa applicant doesn't have full scholarship, the visa applicant must prove to the US visa officer that they are capable of paying their tuition. The US visa officer would like to know how the visa applicant would do that.

The following are some of the questions that may be asked by the US visa officer regarding your financial capability.

4). Your educational credentials

To get admission into many US universities or colleges, you must have some prior educational qualification on hand to be able to enroll for your program or course in the USA. WARNING: Be careful how you answer this question because this is usually used to determine the non-immigrant intent of the applicant because a US student visa in not meant for the applicant to live in the USA. The US visa applicant is instead supposed to show intent to return to his/her home country after completing his/her program or course.

Here are the questions the US student visa applicant should prepare to answer about their plan after graduation.

Again, the US student visa ( F1 Visa / M1 visa / J1 visa) all are non-immigrant visas. This means that the student visa applicant must not have any plan to live or settle in the USA after graduation.

The US visa officer would look for the applicant's ties to his/her family at home, which gives some assurance that the student would return home after graduation.

The US visa officer usually look for the applicant's family and social relationships at home country, investments, financial assets, possibility of employment at home after graduation.
